The building projects of the 1870s brought significant changes to the forerunner of the now
238-year-old Semmelweis University. This was the time when Üllõi street - which used to be a
periphery of the city - became the centre for medical training. New, modern and wellequipped
departments were established off the reel. Parallel to the building operations the
so called “medical school of Budapest” also evolved.
Participants of the Semmelweis
Symposium 2007 are invited to look into the history of the university. During the one hour
historical group walks (either in English or Hungarian) participants are introduced to the
relics (statues, relieves, memorial rooms etc.), curiosities and stories of the university.
will be informed about the exact departure times and the program of the walks planned on
the second afternoon of the Symposium at registration.
